Installation

Install Localizer 10 per machine, per user, or silently.

One installer covers every mode. It carries the Visual C++ runtime, can download the .NET runtimes it needs, and runs without questions from the command line.

The public file is the trial, localizer.exe. Licensed customers get their own installer; the switches are the same.

Per-machine setup installs runtimes; per-user setup needs no administrator.

Setup asks at the start whether to install for all users or only for you. From the command line, choose with /ALLUSERS or /CURRENTUSER.

Windows is all you need; setup adds the runtimes.

  • Windows: Windows 11 recommended.
  • Administrator rights for per-machine setup and for installing runtimes.
  • Internet access during setup to download missing runtimes. Without it, Localizer still installs.
  • Command line: part of every installation, with no separate download.

Setup checks each runtime and installs only what is missing.

Before installing, setup lists the missing .NET items with checkboxes and the download size. No .NET runtime blocks installation: add one later, and its feature starts working without reinstalling Localizer.

Runtimes, what they are needed for, and what setup does
RuntimeNeeded forWhat setup does
Visual C++ Redistributable (x86), 14.51 or laterLocalizer itselfCarried inside the installer; nothing to download
Microsoft Edge WebView2 RuntimeStart page and HTML previewDownloaded and installed if missing; if that fails, setup continues
.NET Framework 4.8.NET Framework 4.8 and Delphi (DFM) applicationsUsually part of Windows; installed if missing
.NET 8 Runtime or later (x64)Machine translation: DeepL, Google Translate, Microsoft Azure TranslatorInstalled if missing
.NET Desktop Runtime 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10Opening, editing, and previewing applications on that .NET versionInstalled for each selected .NET component, x86 and x64
.NET SDK 5–10Creating .NET 5–10 satellite assemblies, also on a build server; translators do not need itOffered for each selected .NET component; unchecked in the Translator setup type
Installing runtimes yourself

A per-user installation, a computer without internet access, or a silent run without /AUTOINSTALLRUNTIMES leaves the .NET runtimes to you. Download them from Microsoft: .NET downloads and the Visual C++ Redistributable (x86). These are the links setup shows on its own pages.

Setup switches install Localizer without questions.

Combine them on one command line. A silent run installs no .NET runtime unless you add /AUTOINSTALLRUNTIMES.

Setup switches and what they do
SwitchWhat it does
/VERYSILENTNo wizard and no progress window
/SILENTNo wizard; the progress window is shown
/SUPPRESSMSGBOXESAnswers message boxes with the default choice; use with /SILENT or /VERYSILENT
/NORESTARTNever restarts Windows, even when a runtime asks for it
/ALLUSERSPer-machine installation; needs administrator rights
/CURRENTUSERPer-user installation; installs no .NET runtimes
/AUTOINSTALLRUNTIMESLingobit switch. In a silent per-machine run, downloads and installs the missing .NET Framework 4.8, .NET 8 Runtime (x64), and Desktop Runtimes for the selected .NET components
/AUTOINSTALLSDKSLingobit switch. In a silent per-machine run, also installs the .NET SDKs for the selected .NET 5–10 components
/DIR="folder"Installation folder, as a full path
/TYPE=typeSetup type: full, translator, or custom
/COMPONENTS="list"Installs only the listed components, separated by commas; a * prefix includes all children
/MERGETASKS="!desktopicon"Skips the desktop shortcut, which is created by default
/LOG="file"Writes a setup log, including every runtime download and its result; /LOG alone writes it to the TEMP folder

Restarts. A runtime installer can ask for a restart. Without /NORESTART, a /VERYSILENT run restarts Windows without asking.

Four command lines cover the usual deployments.

Run them from an elevated command prompt or a deployment tool; otherwise Windows asks for administrator approval. Exit code 0 means success; any other code means setup did not finish, and the log says why.

  • Silent, for all users, with runtimes

    localizer.exe /VERYSILENT /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /NORESTART /ALLUSERS /AUTOINSTALLRUNTIMES
  • Silent, without downloading .NET runtimes

    localizer.exe /VERYSILENT /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /NORESTART /ALLUSERS

Setup still installs the Visual C++ runtime it carries and tries to install WebView2 if it is missing.

  • Build server: only the .NET versions you ship

    localizer.exe /VERYSILENT /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /NORESTART /ALLUSERS ^
      /COMPONENTS="dotnet\net48,dotnet\net8,dotnet\net10" ^
      /AUTOINSTALLRUNTIMES /AUTOINSTALLSDKS

Components you do not list, such as dictionaries and samples, are not installed.

  • Any installation, with a log

    localizer.exe /VERYSILENT /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /NORESTART /ALLUSERS ^
      /AUTOINSTALLRUNTIMES /LOG="C:\Logs\localizer-setup.log"

To uninstall silently, run unins000.exe from the installation folder with /VERYSILENT /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /NORESTART.
