Working with translators

You keep the project and the application files. Translators get a translation task, translate it, and send the result back. You import the result into your project.

1. Prepare a translation task

Choose Project > External Translation > Prepare Translation Task. The wizard asks how to deliver the task:

  • Lingobit Translator Project — a translator project file (.ltp) for a translator who already has Lingobit Localizer installed;

  • Delivery Bundle (Project + Setup + Files) — a folder with the translator project, the Lingobit setup, a README with the steps for the translator, and any files you add;

  • Text/CSV file — for translation in a text editor or a spreadsheet;

  • XLIFF — an XLIFF 1.2 file for a CAT tool.

You choose the languages, the files and resources, and which translations to include. See Prepare Translation Task.

2. The translator works in Translator Edition

Translator Edition is included with every Localizer license; available features follow the main license. At the first start the translator chooses Start Translator Edition and opens the .ltp file. The translator works in the same Translation Editor, runs validation, and sends the saved .ltp file back. Translator Edition cannot create projects, add files, or prepare translation tasks.

To make the translator fix validation errors before sending the project back, turn on Enforce validation for translator in the project properties. See Validation settings.

3. Import the results

Choose Project > External Translation > Import Translation Results and select the file you received: a translator project (.ltp), an XLIFF file, or a CSV file. The Output panel lists what changed: the number of affected items, text changes, Translation Status changes, and changes of other properties. To review the imported items, choose the Recent Changes filter Changes from Last Translation Results Import. See Import Translation Results.

When the application changes

Run Scan for Changes in your project and prepare a new translation task. By default the task contains the items that are not yet Complete or Locked and the items Scan for Changes marked as new or changed; items whose only change is position or size are left out. See Updating Translator's Project.
